Course Description:
Prerequisites: Art 1 and II (511, 512)
Art III (11-12) is an elective Certificate of Merit course in which emphasis is placed on identifying the elements and principles of design in the environment and in student artistic efforts. Students will identify cultural and historical influences of art heritage and its relationship to personal creativity. Students will be presented with an in depth study of numerous media and techniques to enable them to effectively translate their ideas, feelings and emotions to create their own personal artistic style.

Art Room Rules:
All rules outlined in the Fort Hill High School Policy and Procedure (Handbook) book are also to be applied and followed in the Art Room.
The class rules have been set up so that each student has the opportunity to work in an educational environment where learning can take place and task be completed. No individual student or situation will be permitted to interfere with instruction or the learning environment.
Each student will:
receive a utility pass in order to leave the room.

7. Use of iPods and cell phones in the art room is allowed (if used in a responsible manner). Ipods and cell phones
are only allowed on during work time.
Course Overview:
During the course of Art III,:
Some of the art materials that will be introduced in Art III include: tempera, acrylic, oil and watercolor paint, oil pastel, chalk pastel, colored pencil, clay, watercolor pencil, plaster, and batik. Students will be expected to complete sketchbook assignments on occasion and keep thumbnail planning sketches in their sketchbook. Sketchbooks are a large part of Art III. Planning sketches are completed and graded prior to starting in class projects. In class projects are completed in class. In addition to thumbnail (planning) sketches and in class projects, students are required to come to class on time, stay in their seat, and participate in class. Students will earn 2 points for every day they come to class on time and participate. Art III allows the student more creative freedom and choices than Art I or II. Art III is more of an introduction to more advanced art media and ideas than a mastery of advanced art media and ideas.
